Antennas

Mobeye products feature a communication module and a (built-in) antenna. If the mobile network signal is weak, it is advisable to choose an antenna with greater gain or to relocate the antenna.

Antennas for mobile communication

Every Mobeye device has an antenna. This is usually an internal antenna, housed within the device. In most locations, this is sufficient for reliable communication. This is particularly true when using the Mobeye SIM card, as it allows for the use of multiple network providers and various frequency bands. In places where mobile or 4G coverage is not strong enough, such as inside a container or steel cabinet, an external antenna is an option. By mounting the antenna in a location with good coverage and routing the cable to the base unit, you are assured of reliable communication.

Choice before or afterwards

The mounting connector on the circuit board for the external antenna differs from that of the internal antenna. A UFL-SMA connector is required for this. Furthermore, the “CM4” products require a different front plate for mounting the antenna. These are included in the kits listed below.

Converting to an external antenna is a simple process (and can be done retrospectively) for the “CM4” products. The kits are also suitable for the “CM2” products, but the conversion requires a little more technical know-how.
